County Library Plans For The Future
Over the next few months the Marin County Free Library will be working with the community to develop a master plan for its library branches. The plan will be used as a "road map" to help improve the library's services and facilities over the next 20 years.
The Marin County Free Library serves approximately 140,000 residents from 11 branches throughout the County. Large branches are located in the Civic Center building in San Rafael, Corte Madera, Fairfax and Novato. Smaller branches are located in Marin City, Hamilton and in five West Marin locations: Bolinas, Inverness, Point Reyes Station, San Geronimo and Stinson Beach. The larger buildings and some of the smaller ones are aging and in need of expansion, remodeling or replacement to meet the needs of a modern, technologically current library with adequate space.
A series of public forms have been scheduled to give Marin residents opportunities to help shape the future of library services in their community.
The first round of open community meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the following locations in West Marin. Everyone is welcome!
January 9 Fairfax & San Geronimo area residents at the Fairfax Library
January 25 Inverness & Point Reyes Station area residents at the Dance Palace
January 30 Bolinas & Stinson Beach area residents at the Community Center
A second round of open community meetings will be scheduled in March, at which time the findings of the study will be reported. A third round will occur in May, at which time the architects and consultants will present their recommendations.
