$200,000 Approved for Protecting Bolinas Lagoon
By US Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today announced that her request for $200,000 to fund the restoration of Bolinas Lagoon was included in the Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill passed by the Senate.

"This project will help restore one of our country's most unique and pristine coastal wetlands, essential habitat for a variety of rare, threatened and endangered wildlife," Boxer said. "I am very pleased that the Senate has recognized the importance of this project."
The funding will be used to dredge choking levels of sediment from the lagoon's floor, accumulated during past commercial activity. The dredging will allow the tidal bay to function normally again. The project will help restore the lagoon as an important habitat for numerous species of fish, marine mammals and migratory and stationary water birds.
The Energy and Water Development bill provides funding for civil works projects of the Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of the Interior, the Department of Energy and independent agencies.
The US House of Representatives approved its version of this appropriations bill in May. The bill now goes to conference.
