Clean Bill Of Health For Hamilton Is Bogus
By Elena Belsky
Former Hamilton Air Force Base was the poster child as a worst case scenario for base closure and re-use, regarding technical process and open participation, at the ISIS National Military Waste Conference. While many other military properties are contaminated with much more toxic and hazardous materials, HAFB seems to be the worst as far as governmental cover up of problems, lack of adequate evaluation of site activities, and extent of contamination, poor public process and involvement, and the non-cooperative attitude of the people in charge. Intermittent and inconsistent regulation and participation of the State and Federal environmental protection agencies were also cited as contributing to the problems.
Fumbling Bumbling Idiots Get Massive Pay Raise - By Stephen Simac
The inner workings of the FBI have been revealed in the last months and they're ugly. Like an overripe watermelon splitting open from its rotten core the Federal Bureau of Investigation hasn't looked so bad since the days when cross dressing J. Edgar Hoover was trampling over the Constitution.
Russian River Water Quality Still Questionable - MMWD Study Marred By Poor Science - By Louis Nuyens
In June, the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) staff presented the results of a quietly instituted, 12-18 month water-quality testing program on the Russian River.
US Business: Utterly Corrupted Or Just a Few Bad Apples? - By Jim Scanlon
The highest paid executives of the largest US corporations continue to be exposed on a daily basis for having been involved in questionable or outright criminal activities that are robbing billions of dollars from small investors and their own employees. Collectively these activities are dragging down the stock market, adding to our national debt and decreasing the value of the dollar.
Badly Wrought Science - By Carol Sterritt
Recently the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) made an important announcement. It will no longer concern itself with the possible conflict of interest when an industry's money pays for scientific research. Apparently, there is simply so much meddling between industrial concerns that have the bucks and laboratories doing the research, be the labs university-owned, or private, that the Journal will now simply overlook whatever conflict of interest there might be and go ahead, full-throttle, to publish the results.
There Are Middle Eastern Peace Activists - By Karen Nakamura
Intimidation and death threats are on the increase in the United States. Attacks against synagogues and mosques are up significantly. But there is another segment of society that is rarely acknowledged yet has been inundated with hate mail, death threats and intense pressure to make them stop expressing their views. They are the Middle East peace activists.
TWA Flight 800 Disaster Video Reinforces Missile Theory
The recently released video documentary, "TWA 800: The Search for the Truth," presents strong evidence that points to the possibility that a Naval exercise off the coast of Long Island, New York went terribly wrong the night of July 17, 1996 killing all 230 aboard TWA Flight 800 six years ago.
Road Trip: Life's Twists and Turns - By Aaron Wiley
Jason Rodgers has returned home to Bolinas in case some of you haven't seen him around. The next change is me, I am now in culture shock. I am centralized in Arizona's 100-plus degree weather in the city of Tucson. There was a voice inside myself telling me for years to take control and find what you want out there, I finally listened!
Antonia Gretta Steiner
This is to announce the untimely death of Antonia Gretta Steiner on June 25, 2002.
Killing Americans For Oil And Israel - By Edward W. Miller
The media is full these days of accusations, recriminations, congressional hearings and much political jazz, aimed at either deflecting criticism from Washington's failure to warn us of September 11th or suggestions regarding revamping our so-called Intelligence Establishment. While the embarrassed CIA and FBI sit as humbly as possible through endless "hearings" our bubble-head President is erecting a Department of "National Security".
Patriotic Hate Crimes - By Frank Scott
This is the season of patriots, some who love their country and all its people, and others who wave their flags when it fights wars, but hide their wallets when it collects taxes. These false patriots love our symbols, but hate our government. Their bipolar disorder are part of a warped patriotism based on laws that express nationality, but at the expense of morality.
Nuclear Weapons And Media Fog - By Norman Solomon
American media outlets roused themselves from outright denial early this month, spurred by belated warnings from top US officials that a nuclear war between India and Pakistan would kill millions of people. The tone of news coverage shifted toward alarm. Meanwhile, atomic history remained largely sanitized.
Healing The Earth - By Guy W. Meyer
Life may be seen as a universal process of healing and harmonizing. Evolution is a constant process of the dying off, the discontinuance, of inharmonious elements-the survival of newly mutated qualities that are more adaptable to the environment in which they live.

Activists Win In Judi Bari Vs. FBI Trial
The jury in the Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney federal civil rights lawsuit against four FBI agents and three Oakland Police officers awarded plaintiffs $4.4 million for violation of the activists' Constitutional rights and returned a verdict largely in favor of Earth First! activists Cherney and the late Judi Bari. In a legal victory of historic proportions against the FBI, the jury found that six of the seven defendants violated the First and Fourth Amendments of the Constitution by arresting the activists, conducting searches of their homes, and carrying out a smear campaign in the press

Marin County Changes Medical Cannabis Policy
Ever since the police backed off during the attempt to recall DA Kamena, the medical cannabis patients of Marin County have been much less hassled. We continued to win every patient case in court, and were able to overturn the previous unfair DA guidelines by jury trial, such as when Steven Babich was acquitted for 112 plants.
Drake High Grads Reach For New Heights
Ami Ehrlich and Beth Mertz graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School in 1990. Now, more than 10 years later, they are back in the Bay Area and are about to embark on an adventure that is both daring and meaningful. They are part of Women with Altitude, a group of women that will climb three high altitude peaks in the Bolivian Andes this July as an example of hope and strength to women everywhere that live each day in fear of domestic violence.
Fairfax Supports Medical Marijuana Program
The Fairfax Planning Commission last month decided to continue the permit review process in cooperation with the Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana, in an amiable show of support for all the work and effort the Club, the Town, and the County has undertaken to protect cannabis patients' rights in Marin County.
