Brower Quits Sierra Club Board

David Brower, perhaps the most widely revered environmentalist has resigned from the Board of Directors of the Sierra Club charging that the organization is "Fiddling while the world goes up in flames" (an allusion to the Roman emperor playing a lyre while Rome burned in a huge conflagration).

Brower was the Club's director during the tumultuous 1950s and 60s who founded Friends of the Earth and the League of Conservation Voters. His letter criticizing the Marin County Chapter of the League of Conservation Voters for it's endorsements of Joe Nation, Steve Kinsey and Annette Rose appeared in the Coastal Post last month.

Brower is 87 and still active.
