Conservation Action Trashes Nation Endorsement

Sonoma County Conservation Action has rescinded its endorsement of Joe Nation for the 6th District Assembly seat in response to his announcement of support for Measure B, which would impose a half-cent sales tax to widen Highway 101 in Sonoma County to six lanes.

According to Conservation Action Board Chair Bill Kortum, "If Measure B passes, it will kill the careful effort in Marin County to craft a tax measure for the November ballot that would include highway, rail and transit improvements. Measure B's passage would be a complete disaster for Marin County, which is most of the 6th Assembly District. We've been getting calls from Marin transportation activists who are hopping mad at Joe.

"Sonoma County citizens have already paid to widen Highway 101, and it's going to happen. Draining local sales taxes to pay for something we've already paid for will kill the future of rail transit in our county and won't solve traffic congestion."
