Grassroots Activism Class-Marin Activist Dotty LeMieux Leads Training Session
Are
you considering a run for elective office? Are you incensed about an
inappropriate development or loss of open space in your neighborhood, but don't
know what to do about it? Do you wish you could write effective letters to the
editor or opinion pieces in the local paper to alert people to serious issues
in your community or the world?
You are not alone. Many people want to take action but lack the skills for effective
lobbying or using the press to their advantage. They want to be of service
but don't have the first idea how you get started running for local office.
If this is you or someone you know, this one day class in Practical Politics
at the College of Marin is just what you need. The class is taught by Marin
grassroots activist and political consultant Dotty LeMieux and will provide you
with the Nuts and Bolts of Activism.
The class will be held on Saturday, April 30, 10-4 at the Harlan Center, at the College of Marin, through the Community Education
Department, and costs $30.
Topics to be covered include dealing with the press, lobbying politicians,
creating effective materials, building coalitions, and the basics of mounting a
grassroots campaign, including tips on raising money for your cause. Handouts
and a bibliography for further reading will be provided.
You can register on line at
