The MMOB Takes Action To Save Social Secu=
rity
"Write the Right" program helps grassroots moms
contact Congress

Moms (The MMOB) is reaching out to offer courage to their elected officials=
in
Members, family, and f=
riends
are writing personal letters to about 100 Republicans in Congress who are
either on the record as critical of privatization, or are part of
self-identified moderate groups. Hearing from educated constituents will
encourage rational Republicans to resist political pressure from Bush's rad=
ical
right wing and reject the scare tactics being used to frighten the American
people in an attempt to demolish Social Security.
MMOB volunteers develo=
ped
the "Write the Right" Bite Size Action to help busy parents,
grandparents, and grandkids tell their elected officials to stop the White
House from inventing a fake crisis. The MMOB web site offers downloadable
Social Security Stationery, and a directory of moderates organized by state.
Background Fact Sheets explain that privatization does nothing to address a=
ny
solvency issues Social Security may face, and that Social Security--much mo=
re
than a retirement plan--was designed to also protect widows, orphans and
disabled workers from an economic free fall.
Megan Matson, Director=
of
The MMOB, says, "Social Security is one of the most successful, humane=
and
efficient programs ever. We want to celebrate that fact while reaching out =
to
the sane Republicans who must be tired of all the strong-arming going on wi=
thin
their own party."
About The MMOB:
M=
ainstreet
Moms (The MMOB) is a grassroots organization dedicated to increased politic=
al
participation by women, especially as they identify and self-organize as
mothers. Through "Adopt-a-Swing-State" letter writing parties dur=
ing
election 2004, members sent personal encouragement and voter registration f=
orms
to half a million single moms that did not vote in the 2000 election.
