Pastors for Peace Chiapas Caravan Send-off Dinner
For
the benefit of Zapatista communities in Chiapas, a fund-raising dinner, film, discussion, and gift boutique will be
held on Thursday, March 3, 6:00 p.m., at
The Redwoods Presbyterian Church, 110 Magnolia, Larkspur, sponsored by the
Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas.
The video "Caracoles" describes the recent reorganization of the
Zapatista government structure; and Carolina Dutton, recently returned from the
New Year's celebration and coffee picking in Chiapas, will explain what the
reorganization means and how it is functioning. She will also provide an update
on current Zapatista economic, education and health projects. Doug Orcutt will
describe the mission of the Chiapas Caravan and the importance of the
"Campaign for Corn."
Recently harvested fair trade coffee and crafts from autonomous Zapatista
cooperatives will be offered for sale. A photo display will provide visual
images of past caravans and projects in Chiapas.
The $10-20 per person donation includes dinner. For reservations please
call 415/924-3227. All proceeds from the evening's event will benefit Pastors
for Peace "Campaign for Corn" to feed the landless indigenous people
of Chiapas. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
