Green Party of California Honors Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
SAN FRANCISCO
(January 17, 2005) - The Green Party of California today - on Martin Luther
King Jr. Day - praised the slain civil rights leader and honored his memory by
calling for a renewal of his pledge of non-violence.
Elected Green Party officials, members of the GPCA, and members of local
Green Parties throughout California joined many of the events honoring
Dr. King.
"If the Rev. King's life not been shortened by an assassin's bullet in
1968, he would no doubt be opposed to the violence and the unending war in Iraq
today as he was opposed to the Vietnam War 40 years ago," said Craig
Peterson, a military veteran and member of the GPCA Coordinating Council.
"As a progressive political party that has opposed the continuing of
the Iraq war, we call upon all political
parties and all Americans to honor Rev. King and his lifelong message of
nonviolence and peace, and to end the Iraq
war now, " added Tom Bolema, co-chair of the GPCA Media Standing
Committee.
