County Free Library Increases
Service to People Who Are Homebound
Library Beyond
Walls is pleased to announce that, beginning September 1, 2004, we are able to serve people of all ages, not just those 55
and older.
For the last year, Library Beyond Walls, a program of the Marin County Free
Library, has delivered books, audio tapes, videos and other library materials
to homebound clients 55 years and older, with the help of local volunteers.
Our funding source has changed and we are now able to offer this service to
clients of all ages.
As we have worked with people who are homebound, we have seen that Library
Beyond Walls does more than expand the Marin County Free Library's range of
service outside the library branches. Many of our current clients report that
they are able to use the library for the first time in years. Until this
program was available, they were unable to access library materials on their
own; now they are receiving monthly deliveries from trained volunteers.
Additionally, clients report feeling more connected with the outside world
through the materials they receive and the volunteers who deliver them.
Library branches that participate in Library Beyond Walls include Bolinas, Civic Center, Corte Madera, Fairfax, Inverness, Marin City, Novato, Point Reyes Station, San Geronimo Valley, South Novato and Stinson Beach. Library Beyond Walls is also
online at

Library Beyond Walls is funded for its second year by a grant from the Marin
County Free Library Foundation. Partnering with Marin County Free Library in
this program is the Foster Grandparents/Senior Companions Program. Rachel Van
