School-Age Children Need
Loving Homes
The Marin County
Department of Health and Human Services is looking for people who can provide
temporary homes to children who are age five to eighteen years old. As foster
parents, individuals and couples make significant differences in the lives of
children who have typically experienced abuse or neglect. These children can
blossom with families who are able to provide stability and love.
Anyone interested in learning about foster
care is invited to an upcoming Information Meeting on Thursday, December 4,
from 7-8:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Division of Social Services
at 10 North San Pedro Rd., Room 1018 in San Rafael. A social worker and a
foster parent will describe the experience of foster parenting, as well as the
financial support and professional training which are available.
For more information, please call Cindy
Wasserman at 415-499-5028.
Marin County Launches "Grown In
Marin" Website
The
University of California Cooperative Extension of Marin County and its
partners, have just completed a new website, Grown in Marin
(www.growninmarin.org). The site showcases thirty-five Marin County producers
of fine products such as organic strawberries, grass-fed beef, olive oil, an
abundance of vegetables, oysters, eggs and more. Each farm lists their product
availability, hours open to the public, a description of the farm and some
history, along with other valuable information. The viewer can also search the
thirty-five farms for specific products through a search engine. The website is
rich in resources with a complete farmers market schedule, helpful publications
and published resources, farm stays and tours, organically-friendly stores and
restaurants and a long list of sustainable agriculture links.
The site is updated regularly and will
continue to expand to provide tools for Marin farmers to attract new customers.
The family farms presented on growninmarin.org depend on consumers in order to
remain economically healthy.
