Advance Screening of "Cold Mountain"
To Benefit Full Circle and Honor Dr.
Carolyn Brown

IN PERSON: Academy Award-Winning Filmmaker
and Marin resident Walter Murch, who edited the film, and "COLD
MOUNTAIN" producers Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa.
The special screening and conversation with
the filmmakers is to benefit Full Circle Programs, an innovative program based
in San Rafael and West Marin that provides an array of mental health,
educational and mentoring services to more than 1,000 children each year who
have suffered abuse, trauma or loss; and the California Film Institute Outreach
program, which gives students the opportunity to view significant films and to
discuss them with filmmakers and other relevant experts. The screening will
also honor the memory of Dr. Carolyn Brown, founder of Full Circle Programs,
who passed away November 4.
Based on the best-selling Civil War novel by Charles Frazier and
directed by Oscar-winning director ANTHONY MINGHELLA ("The English
Patient," "The Talented Mr. Ripley"), the film stars Nicole
Kidman, Jude Law and Rene Zellweger.
"COLD
MOUNTAIN" tells the story of Inman (Jude Law), a wounded confederate
soldier who is on a perilous journey home to his mountain community, hoping to
reunite with his pre-war sweetheart, Ada (Nicole Kidman). In his absence, Ada
struggles to survive, and revive her father's farm with the help of an intrepid
young drifter Ruby (Rene Zellweger).

WALTER MURCH has been called a true "silent server" in
the film industry, a talented filmmaker whose work remains ever in the
background but in many ways is often what makes the picture. Millions have seen
his work and the filmmaker has been recognized with numerous Academy-Award
nominations as well as actually taking home three of the Oscar statuettes.
Murch took home an Oscar in 1979 for his innovative sound design on
"Apocalypse Now," and two Oscars in 1996, for editing and sound on
"The English Patient," where he worked with director Minghella for
the first time. Murch's editing work on the "Godfather" trilogy,
"Ghost," "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," "First Knight," "The Talented
Mr. Ripley" and 2002's "K-19: The Widowmaker," among other
films, have won critical acclaim.
Murch's name can be found in the textbooks of today's film students as
the father of "sound design" and as one of the most accomplished
sound designers and film editors working in modern film. Murch has authored his
own book, In the Blink of an Eye, about film editing, and was the subject of
The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film, by English Patient
author Michael Ondaatje.
