Generational Activism; Bringing 'Em Up - By Elena Belsky
When the Vietnam War motivated people to come together and protest, my parents were outspoken peace activists - my mother, Gloria was organizer of the first Peace and Freedom Party in Los Angeles, and ran a draft counseling center. For two years, 1966 through 1968, our family traveled north to San Francisco and south to LA to attend the various peace marches and anti-war meetings. I was four and five years old, yet the sights and sounds of the era are vividly imprinted on my memory.

'Single Payer' Health Plans Gain Support - By Louis Nuyens
With California and the federal government facing huge budget deficits, government healthcare programs are faltering. There are growing numbers of uninsured, rising private health insurance premiums and deductibles, Bush administration calls for individuals to take up the slack by buying private healthcare insurance, and continued strong criticisms of managed care provided by private companies. A shakedown of government healthcare programs seems inevitable. Partially as a result of these troubles, arguments for a 'single-payer' healthcare system that would provide coverage for all citizens are gaining support.

Human Shields In Baghdad Waiting For Bush To Bomb - By John Ross
BAGHDAD (Feb. 22nd) - The Syrian-Iraqi border after midnight is a dimly-lit No Man's Land. We sit in a smokefilled cafe on the Syrian side, dining on kabobs and guzzling Turkish coffee on the house. When George Bush pounds a podium while multiple American flags unfurl behind him on the cafe TV, the truck drivers, low-rent travelers, and Human Shields in attendance convulse in waves of laughter and derision at the US president's cowboy shtick.

Letter From Washington - By Jim Scanlon
Although the Potomac was frozen over, the D.C. air was warm and a light rain was falling when I walked out of Union Station. I was very uncomfortable in the heavy clothing I had worn for the freezing weather I had just left in upstate New York.

Thoughts On The Legitimacy of Suicide Bombings - By John Walker Lindh
In recent years, the issue of the legitimacy of suicide bombings in Islamic law has caused a considerable amount of controversy around the world. I am not a scholar, nor am I qualified to make any authoritative comments on this matter, but I have come to certain conclusions based upon my own studies. I believe that suicide bombings are not justified regardless of how desperate the conflict may be, or how limited the options of the resisting population. Killing civilians has been unanimously rejected by mainstream Muslim scholars throughout Islamic history.

US And Israel Should Comply With UN Resolutions - By Karen Nakamura
One of the United State's sticking points for pushing the United Nations into an invasion of Iraq is Iraq's non-compliance with United Nations resolutions. President Bush has repeatedly accused the United Nations of "going the way of the League of Nations" if it doesn't follow through on its resolutions to disarm Saddam Hussein.

Even for an age when omens are considered superstitions, the disaster of the Columbia has obviously symbolism. Columbia is the mythical spirit of America. Fanning The Flames Of Terrorism By Edward W. Miller
Rather than dealing directly with those Washington policies which brought about the so called terrorist attacks against Americans in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Kenya, the USS Cole, the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Bali, the government instead chose military action in Afghanistan and the cowardly and expensive "hunker down" campaign here at home.

Will You March For The First Amendment? - By Jeanette Pontacq
The worldwide protests against Bush's War on Iraq slowed down his timetable. Congrats to everyone who marched, spoke out or acted out. Vive La France! There are good signs that many in the world have woken up to what the Bush Regime has in store for them if left unchecked. Whether a majority of Americans have woken up is an unanswered question so far.
