The Supreme Court, June 19, considered the case in Texas of a schoolgirl picked by other students to say a prayer over the P.A. system at a football game. The Court ruled against it, emphasizing the separation of church and state. Why does our money have "In God We Trust"? The Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag has the words, "One Nation, Under God," and I'm sure school assemblies still sing "God Bless America."
Maybe if kids said more prayers, they would be less inclined to kill each other.
Isn't that what the communist countries did when they first took over-struck god right out of the people's lives?
Then one of the next things the communist (socialist) regime will do is take over the land. Well, that's going on here in America, too. Marin County is two-thirds owned by fed, state or county park districts, the State of California is close to one-half, and the US of A is about one-third, with more to come.
We are paying over 50 percent of our salary to the government and basically we don't vote on where all our taxes go. Isn't that taxation without representation?
Most of our manufacturing is going overseas and small family farms are on their way out, being replaced by large corporate industrial farming.
In the meantime, an immigrant waits patiently to come into this country legally, while illegal immigrants are running amuck, and in Mexico a group of people have put a $10,000 bounty per head on our American border patrol.
Now the taste police are telling people how to talk politically correct and any words that pop out of somebody's mouth that are deemed politically incorrect are punished. What happened to freedom of expression? In New York some months ago there was a clamor over an artistic work which had Jesus' mother Mary with elephant dung all over her and it stayed on exhibit because of freedom of expression, even though many people were offended.
And now let's take our own beloved Marin County.
People owning land have certain land-use rights under the zoning on their property. Well, forget it-even though they build within the law of the present day zoning, they are told No and yet another project comes up where the owner-builder can't stuff all the construction within the confines of the zoned boundary... What happens? With one broad stroke of a pen, that property is rezoned to accommodate a politically correct owner or project. It's totally unfair, and I believe that the person who can't have what is permitted under the present zoning is totally unfair and constitutes taking away your land-use rights without compensation, but I guess the word fair means a place where you show your pig for a blue ribbon.
There are so many instances it would take 10 pages to enumerate them: the environment, land-use rights, collusion and favoritism of certain projects, etc.
I perceive politics is like a circle, and if you go too far to the left (communism) or if you go too far to the right (fascism), you end up at the same spot.
What really bothers me is how lethargic and passive the West Marinites are about these inequities and how Americans can keep on not seeing the writing on the wall.
P.S. I'm sure you people remember Bob Dylan's lyrics, "How many times must a man look up before he sees the sky?"
Happy 4th of July, and get involved because once our rights are gone, there's no turning back.
